They’ve helped sort out thousands of donations

- Colette Crampsey

Shopping centre workers have been giving up their time to help people who are hungry and in need.

Staff from intu Braehead have been volunteering at Renfrewshire Foodbank’s warehouse, in Renfrew.

They helped to sort out the thousands of food donations, getting boxes ready for distribution to those who need help the most.

The work was part of intu’s company- wi d e initiative encouraging staff to take the time from their work schedule to help support a local charity or community group.

Elizabeth Alexander, project manager, at Renfrewshire Foodbank said they were delighted to have the support of the community.

She said: “The volunteers from intu Braehead are such a great help to us, especially at this time of year when our warehouse is so busy.

“We really enjoy working with them all. They are so obliging.

“I hope they will come back in the future. Thank you to every one of them.”

Renfrewshire Foodbank is currently running very low on tinned soup, tinned fruit, Longlife juice, UHT milk, cereal, tinned tomatoes, jam, teabags and coffee.

Trussell Trust Foodbanks provide three days of emergency food to local individuals and families in crisis.

Frontline care professionals, including health visitors, social workers and school liaison officers, can refer people who are facing hunger to the Foodbank.

To get help, you need to have a valid foodbank voucher and there are four distribution centres across Renfrewhire.

These are at: Central Baptist Church, 14 Lady Lane, Paisley; Renfrew Baptist Church, 77 Paisley Road, Renfrew; Johnstone High Parish Church, Quarry Street, Johnstone, and Erskine Baptist Church, Park Hill, Park Mains, Erskine.

Lydia Brown, community development manager at intu Braehead said the staff were delighted to offer up their time to the worthy cause.

She said: “Our staff has been brilliant at coming forward to help local good causes and Renfrewshire Foodbank is certainly a good cause.

“Most of our workers come from local communities around intu Braehead.

“We encourage them and make it as easy as we can for them to play a positive role in helping their community.”

If any local charities or community groups need help with tasks like landscaping, gardening, painting and decorating, or repairs to damaged property, they should email braehead.community@intu. co.uk or call Lydia Brown on 0141 885 1441.

If you can offer any help to Renfrewshire’s Foodbanks – through donations or volunteering – email manager@renfrewshire. foodbank.org.uk or call 0141 889 7999.
