Cops looking for duo seen in area wearing high-vis vests

Thieves have raided a Paisley pensioner’s home in broad daylight and made off with more than £3,000 of goods.

Raiders nicked four tablets, a TV, a laptop and a three-figure sum of euros from the 72-year-old man’s home in Stoney Brae.

Officers believe the back door of the home was forced between 7.40am and 1pm on Monday and they are appealing for information to help trace the crooks.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from the community policing team in Paisley, is keen to speak to two men in connection with the incident.

She said: “We would like to speak to two men who may have been coming and going in the area wearing high-vis vests.

“They are believed to have been using a gray or green hatchback car.

“We are keen to trace these two males who we believe may have information helpful to our enquiries.”

Officers are investigating a separate break- in in Hillpark Avenue, between 2.30am and 10.30am on Friday

A laptop, two tablets, mobile phones and cash – thought to be worth a total of more than £ 2,500 – were stolen from the property.

Again, cops are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area at the time to contact them.

The latest incidents come after police issued a warning that prowlers were operating in the Lounsdale area of the town, near the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Last Thursday, several thousand pounds in cash was stolen from a home in Main Road, before the thief drove off in an Audi A4 he pinched from the driveway.

The keys to the silver car, which has a P7 PPR registration plate, had been lifted from inside the 54-year-old victim’s home.

Five similar break- ins or attempted break-ins in the area have been reported to police in Paisley over the past week.

Police also received reports of prowlers in back gardens in the Corsebar Avenue area, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Inspector Harkins has again urged home owners to keep their property secure.

She said: “I would ask that all home owners make sure there is properly secure and that their valuables are kept in a safe place within their property.

“We have dealt with a number of break- ins recently in the Lounsdale area of the town and I would ask anyone who may have any information on any of the incidents to come forward to police or dial 999 if an incident is ongoing.”
