Paisley Pirates continued their unbeaten start to the season with a well-earned victory over Dundee Tigers at Braehead Arena.

Victory over the Tigers made it three wins from three for Ian Turley’s side, following on from wins over North Ayrshire Wild and Kilmarnock Storm the previous weekend.

Forward Haydn Bain was among the raft of scorers for the Pirates as they stormed to victory, and the youngster insists that things are starting to click for the Paisley side as they look to mount another successful title charge.

And he revealed that some extra midweek ice time is helping the side hit the heights that they are aiming to achieve this season.

Bain said: “We have got quite a young team this year, whereas last year we had older players.

“We have started to step it up and we are a lot faster and we are getting the goals in – and that is what people want to see.

“Training on a Wednesday and Thursday really does give us a lot more stamina, especially when it comes to the games at the weekend.

“The last couple of weeks in training we have been coached to stay in the high slot and that is exactly where I was when I scored, so it has paid off. “My parents were here watching too. “They have been great, they come to every single game – my dad loves the hockey and he trains me as well.”

Meanwhile, assistant coach Adam Walker was delighted with the manner of the side’s win.

And having penned a deal to join the club as a player/coach in the summer, Walker explained that he expects to spend more time coaching the side than actually playing over the course of the campaign. The experienced campaigner, formerly of Braehead Clan, admits he is ready to pass the baton on to the side’s younger players as he makes the transition into the coaching side of the game.

He added: “The plan is for me to play when we have injuries or if we are short in numbers for whatever reason.

“I will step in if I’m needed but the guys we have in the locker room are more than capable of handling themselves during the games.

“They definitely don’t need me to get in the way of them during the games.

“So, I’m happy to be behind the bench, encourage them and watch them succeed on their own.”
