Tennis ace Scott on target for national tourney
Strathgryffe man on top form
Strathgryffe Tennis and Squash Club’s Scott Docherty is through to the coveted TS 1000 main event following another successful weekend on the court.
Tennis ace Docherty has been in fine form throughout the tournament, and has impressed following the opening TS 300 round back at his home club in Houston in September.
A host of victories had saw him qualify for the TS 500 round at the Nuffield Glasgow, with Docherty’s form seeing him seeded in second spot among a number of champions from clubs across the West of Scotland.
Docherty opened the tournament with a victory over Derek Lauder, before progressing through the quarter and semi-finals to face fourth seed Michael Cohen in the final.
Docherty had to be at his best to secure a thrilling three set victory to book his spot in the next TS 1000 competition.
A Tennis Scotland spokesman said: “After an exciting first round of action at the TS 300 events, the stage was set for the next round of the Tennis Scotland Open Tour to commence, with the TS 500 taking place.
“Around 100 competitors were involved throughout the weekend at four venues across Scotland, all aiming to win a place at the TS 1000, the final stage of the tournament.
“The four winning men and women from the respective draws will progress through to the TS 1000 which will be held at the National Tennis Centre in Stirling, in November.
“Among the competitors taking part were the 13 men’s and 8 women’s qualifiers from the TS 300 events who will be looking to cause an upset at the TS 500 stage.”
Docherty has been a regular on the Paisley tennis scene for some time, having previously partnered Anna Daisley to a final win over the David Lloyd pair of Tony Williamson and Jacqueline Fullerton in the mixed doubles competition at the Paisley and District Tennis Competition back in 2014.
More recently, Dochery was crowned Strathgryffe’s Consolation Champion having defeated Jack Garrett in the singles final at the Houston side’s club championship.
