26.10.2017 The Co-op is coming back to Renfrew with the opening of a brand new store today.

The food retailer is opening a new supermarket in Paisley Road in the town with a £464,000 investment transforming a former petrol station.

It closed down its High Street branch in the town in November 2014, with more than 30 staff losing their jobs.

That store is now an Aldi and the new Co-op on Paisley Road has created 12 jobs.

Store manager Simon Barras said: “The Co- op is committed to transforming and growing its convenience business and we are delighted to be making such a significant investment in Renfrew.

“The new store looks great and it really is an exciting time for the whole team.”

Three community groups – I Am Me Scotland, which is based in Paisley; Barrhead Men’s Shed and Lisa’s Gift, a charity set up in memory of Paisley student Lisa Moran, 20, who was knocked down in North Carolina while on an exchange trip in 2008, have been picked to get a funding boost through the Co- op’s new membership scheme.

Co-op members receive a five per cent reward on purchases of the company’s own-branded products and services, with a further one per cent going to the selected local causes.

David McDougall, Co-op area manager, added: “The Co- op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum. We are also giving back to the community.

“Our members have an opportunity to make a difference locally. Simply by using their membership card when they shop with us they will help raise muchneeded funds for organisations that contribute to improving local life.”

The new supermarket will feature an in-store bakery, self-service tills and hot food. It will also have a focus on fresh, healthy food, meal ideas and essentials.

There are offers and promotions in and around the new store to mark its launch. And, students who hold a Young Scot card receive a 10 per cent discount off their groceries in the store.
