Care home unveils bar in tribute to much-loved Billy

-

Care home residents are raising a glass to a new bar named after an old pal.

Kyle Court Care Home has transformed its social area into a pub in tribute to a popular Paisley man.

Bosses have saluted Billy Devoy, who could often be found whiling away the hours in what is now the drinks area.

Manager Kirsty Faulds told how they decided to honour the former resident, who passed away this summer, aged 71.

She said:“We’ve been doing up the home with new themes to help keep the residents stimulated.

“The bar area was one of the last places we came to and we decided to pay tribute to Billy.

“His favourite seat was in what is now the bar.

“Billy’s wife, Lily, would come up to see him every single day and they’d always end up sitting there.

“It’s also the place everybody ends up in at some point during the day.

“We thought it would be a fitting tribute to name it after him.”

Kyle Court Care Home hosts regular functions and events where families can meet with friends.

Its fifth annual open day took place earlier this year and allowed residents, relatives and members of the community to enjoy fun-filled sessions, celebrating the important work care teams do.

Extensive upgrades have taken place in corridors and rooms around the home.

The bar boasts a jukebox, pool table, dart board and even a mock fruit machine that lights up and makes noises.

Residents can enjoy a small drink and catch up with friends, while playing a game of cards, dominoes or reading the paper.

It was opened by Billy’s family, including Lily, who cut the red ribbon, granddaughter Jade, greatgranddaughter Emilia and brother David, who also lives at the home in Paisley’s Lochore Avenue.
