Bright spark pupils can win
A new power safety competition for primary schools is giving pupils a chance of winning an Pad.
The initiative, launched by Energy firm SP Energy Networks, means thousands of pupils will be invited to take part in PowerWise Champions.
This is an interactive lesson in the importance of staying safe around electricity and youngsters will take on a drawing challenge to win their school the prize.
The winners will also get a power safety session from an SP Energy Networks engineer.
Power lines in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire are owned and maintained by the company.
One pupil will also be selected as their school’s power safety ambassador and be the individual who passes on their knowledge of how to behave in the event of a power cut to their school classmates and friends.
Guy Jefferson, director of SP Energy Networks, said: “We’re proud to be able to bring our vital safety messaging into schools, sharing the importance of being prepared for a power emergency.
“There’s loads of simple steps that we can bear in mind to make sure we keep safe in a power cut.
“Hopefully, our PowerWise Champions initiative will generate excitement and enthusiasm for power safety in East Renfrewshire. We look forward to seeing all of the entries!”
