Support group deserves our backing
Another event I attended with my good friend Provost Cameron was the launch of Move More Renfrewshire.
Move More is a project run by Macmillan Cancer Support .
It ensures that people who are diagnosed with cancer get the support they need as they go through the various challenges after diagnosis.
This is another fantastic organisation to back, and it was brilliant to meet up with all the men and women who have had that support, and to hear their stories.
The whole crux of the project is to make sure those diagnosed with cancer are not isolated from our communities.
It ensures that they receive the support and engagement, along with encouragement, with other people who are going through the same as them.
They offer a fitness regime that can be as difficult or as easy as you want, or require.
As we all know, cancer of all kinds, and the treatment ,can be tough on anyone and it is important that you remain fit for it.
I am aware that in the past, after a cancer diagnosis , we became very protective of family members as they went through this ordeal.
This programme ensures that they engage with people, remain physically fit, and focused on recovery.
As many Paisley Daily Express readers will be aware, my own mum had cancer, so this is a very emotive subject for me.
This, of course, is not unusual as most people will have had family members diagnosed with this horrible disease.
But it was inspirational to listen to the stories of those who went through this programme.
I am aware it won’t be for everyone, but it is a very impressive project, and one that I am happy to be connected with.
