Callum is Scots athlete of the year
Kilbarchan AAC athlete Callum Hawkins has been crowned scottishathletics FPSG Athlete of the Year for 2017.
The Habbie has been in sparkling form over the course of the past 12 months, which has show the Elderslie runner draw endless plaudits.
The year started in fine fashion, with Hawkins – who competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the marathon – becoming the first Brit to beat Mo Farah in any race for seven years, at the Great Edinburgh International Cross Country race in the capital.
He would finish in overall second, just missing out on gold following a sprint finish with Leonard Kohir in the final stretch.
Hawkins then set a new Scottish half-marathon record in February, producing a stunning time of an hour flat at the Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon in Japan. The previous record was set by Alister Hutton 30 years ago.
And in August, Hawkins finished fourth in the men’s marathon at the World Championships, the best performance by any British runner in the history of the competition.
Elsewhere, fellow Kilbarchan runner Jemma Reekie bagged the FPSG Under 20 Athlete of the Year.
Reekie was been in fine form on the domestic and international stage all year, starring over both 800m and 1500m.
And rounding off a successful night for the Habbies contingent, Callum’s father, Robert Hawkins clinched the Performance Coach of the Year award at the glitzy bash at Glasgow’s Hilton.
