Capitals are defeated

- E’burgh Capitals...2 Braehead Clan......5

Craig Ritchie Braehead Clan returned to winning ways with a victory in their only game of the weekend.

John Tripp’s side headed to Murrayfield Ice Rink to take on Edinburgh Capitals, safe in the knowledge that they had to get a win on the board sooner rather than later following a run of inconsistent rests.

Four defeats on the spin heading into the clash ensured that Clan couldn’t move the side further up the table despite their eventual win, but it has given them something to build upon ahead of this weekend’s clashes with Nottingham Panthers and Guildford Flames.

Clan started the game on the front foot, but it would take 14 minutes for them to open the scoring. Cameron Burt was on hand to provide the assist as he set up player/ coach Brendan Brooks to open the scoring.

The visitors continued to dominate proceedings and they soon added a second goal a couple of minutes later as Tyler Scofield produced the finish after Brooks turned provider.

The Capitals soon found themselves shorthanded, but that didn’t halt them in their bid to get back in to the game. They rallied and showcased some fighting spirit before eventually pulling one back around the half hour mark as Denis Trakhanov slotted home on the powerplay.

And the Clan’s worst fears were soon realised as the hosts levelled up the scores through Marek Tvrdon, seeing Edinburgh complete a quickfire comeback.

It would have been easy for Clan to collapse at this point, but instead they showed their desire to edge back in front.

Within two minutes, Clan found themselves ahead as Brooks picked up his second goal of the night, and a third point, as Braehead showed why they had been ahead in the first place.

Burt then restored the two-goal lead with Clan’s fourth of the night a couple of minutes later, taking the score to 4-2 at the second break.

And Scofield also notched a second for himself, assisted by Ryan Potulny, as Clan strengthened their advantage to eventually secure the points.
