Ten-man Renfrew fell to a crunching defeat as title - challenging Cambuslang Rangers stormed to the three points at New Western Park.

‘ Frew entered the top of the table clash hopeful of taking the scalp of another high flyer, as second faced off against third.

But they were left licking their wounds as the visitors took their chances in front of goal to ensure they headed home happy.

Dale Burgess had to be on his toes in the early stages, making a fine stop after just 15 minutes to keep the scores level.

But Cambuslang looked in fine form and were passing the ball about well on the slick Renfrew surface.

They eventually got their reward after 20 minutes, with Jordan Love slotting home to give the visitors a deserved advantage.

However, Renfrew were still in the game and were on the hunt for an equaliser. Scott Morton did have the ball in the back of the net, only for the officials to rule the strike out for offside.

But it would be 2-0 before the interval, with Ramage doubling the advantage with just under 10 minutes of the half still to play.

Any hope of a Renfrew fightback was all but ended early in the second half, with the ref sending off young full back Cameron Clark, much to the disbelief of the home support.

This forced the hand of Colin Clark and Martin Ferry, with the Renfrew bosses opting to make a triple substitution not long after.

Fraser Barbour, David Gordon and Kieron Maxwell all made way for Paddy O’Keefe, Jamie Benton and Gregor Wylie.

But there was no stopping Cambuslang now, with goals from Dale Simeon and Callum McRobbie sealing the victory for the visitors.

Renfrew: Burgess, Healy, Clark, Lyden, Miller, Gordon, Barbour, Cochrane, Morton, Maxwell, Quinn.

Subs: McGuinness, Benton, Wylie, O’Keefe and McLeay.
