Drugs squad cops have seized a huge haul of deadly heroin after a swoop on a flat.

The £ 130,000 stash was uncovered after officers visited an address to investigate an unrelated matter.

Stunned cops found the massive quantity of class A drugs before launching a major investigation to establish who the heroin belongs to.

Detective Inspector Scott McCallum, who is based in Paisley, yesterday revealed officers had gone to the

property in Renfrew’s Tennant Street, before a search was carried out.

He said: “Police attended an address in Tennant Street, Renfrew, on Monday evening in relation to another in matter.

“During the course of the inquiry, a substantial amount of drugs was recovered.

“The property was thoroughly searched over a two-day period and further drugs and drug paraphernalia were recovered.

“Enquiries into the matter are ongoing and further investigations are under way.

“If anyone has any information relating to this discovery or, indeed, any drug-related activity in their area, I would urge you to report it to police by calling 101.”

Forensic officers were also drafted in to scour the scene for clues, include fingertip evidence.

Renfrewshire’s Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Gordon Crossan last night praised his officers following the £130,000 bust and warned dealers that they have no place to hide.

He told the Paisley Daily Express: “Similar to other communities in Scotland, heroin can have a major impact on people’s well being and safety. It is often a precursor to violence and health issues.

“We have made it a priority within the division to tackle drug use and supply. In this case, we acted on information from a member of the public and made a substantial drug recovery.

“I would any within their communities who have concerns about drug use or violence in their area to come forward.

“My message is, if you involved with weapons, violence or supplying drugs, expect a visit from the police as we will use ever power available to us to halt your activities.”
