Super Ally’s a winner in planning war
Ally McCoist has won a home clash with neighbours over a bid to build a luxury mansion.
The Scotland hero, 55, had been locked in a battle for permission to bulldoze a B-listed villa just two doors down from his current home.
Planners have given the go-ahead to tear down the house after the fight went into extra time.
A Renfrewshire Council report confirmed a probe to avoid demolition and repair the fire damaged Hermiston had been undertaken.
It stated:“It has been demonstrated through the supporting information that all potential scenarios for restoration have been appropriately considered and that an acceptable alternative scheme for the resultant cleared site has been demonstrated.”
The ex-Rangers star bought the 113-year-old building on Golf Course Road, Bridge of Weir, for £600,000 four years ago.
He has teamed-up with neighbour Jeffrey East for the project, which would see two houses built on the land.
But approval was delayed after objections from those living nearby prompted councillors to demand a site visit before making a decision.
Historic Scotland was among those raising fears over the loss of the building — but recanted after experts revealed it would cost more than £2million in upgrades.
Ally — who scored more than 300 goals during a 22 years as a player — wants to build a plush property with a games and cinema room, balconies and double garages.
Renfrewshire Council has confirmed that planning permission had been granted.
