Mhairi-Claire’s got designs on success
A Paisley graduate’s future is looking good after she completed an internship with a global design and architecture company.
Mhairi-Claire Wilkes, 24, was successful in getting a place on the scheme, run by HLM in its Glasgow office.
She learnt first-hand from the HLM team how design and architecture projects, ranging from UK residential developments to international multi-million pound projects, evolve from initial meetings to the final product.
Mhairi-Claire, who attended West College Scotland before moving onto Edinburgh College of Art, said:“Working in HLM this summer was a great experience.
“I graduated last month in Interior Design and I was very fortunate to get the opportunity to work within the practice as an intern.
“I worked on a few different projects in my time there, but found the design concepts and progressive ideas within the education projects very inspiring.”
HLM’s apprenticeship programme involves young people with various levels of education, including secondary school and university students as well as graduates.
All of the candidates went through an application process to make it on to the highly-coveted apprenticeship scheme for ambitious young people.
Lorraine Robertson, who heads up HLM Scotland, said:“We understand how difficult the job market can be for young people.
“The programme gives us the opportunity to provide students with the skills and experience necessary in today’s job market and we have received very positive feedback from this year’s participants.
“We were really impressed with Mhairi-Claire’s enthusiasm and talent and would encourage anyone considering a career in design and architecture to come talk to us to see how we can assist you.”
