Johnstone heading east after being drawn against Lochee Utd

- Craig Ritchie

Johnstone Burgh face another Scottish Cup trek after being drawn away to Lochee United in the third round.

Burgh, who beat Aberdeen University 2-1 in the last round thanks to goals from Scott Arthur and David McSorley, will take on the East Region outfit on Saturday, November 23.

Colin Smith and David Brolly’s side are looking for an extended run in the Holy Grail of cup competitions following an indifferent start to the Central Second Division campaign, which sees them sitting in the lower half of the standings.

The Keanie Park side last reached the final of the tournament back in 2000, when they were defeated by Whitburn on penalty kicks following a 2-2 draw.

They will be hoping to do better than last year after they crashed out of the cup when a late penalty sealed their fate as they fell to Broughty Athletic.

Burgh were left to feel hard done by after Jamie McCunnie, formerly of Dundee United and Dunfermline, fired home the spot-kick.

However, the previous season they managed to stay in the competition until February before falling to Lesmahagow in the fourth round.

Meanwhile, Arthurlie also remain in the mix for the competition, but will first have to see off the ‘Gow this Saturday in their second round replay.

The winner of the ‘Lie and Lesmahagow clash at Dunterlie Park will be afforded a home clash for their efforts, with Coupar Angus the visitors in the next round.

The Barrhead side will be hoping the Scottish Cup magic of new gaffer Billy Ogilvie rubs off, with the former East Kilbride manager having led Kilby into the fourth round of the senior competition two seasons ago before being knocked out by Premiership big guns Celtic in a money spinning encounter.

Arthurlie last won the tournament in 1998 as Jimmy McQuade’s side triumphed in a famous 4-0 win over arch rivals Pollok in the final.

Full third round draw: Scone v Kilsyth, Forth/Irvine Vics v Lochore, Sauchie v Camelon, Dyce v Irvine Meadow, Perthshire v Pollok, Haddington v Vale of Clyde, Bellshill v Ashfield, Oakley v Linlithgow, Cumnock v Bathgate, Downfield v Wishaw, Whitburn v Benburb, Hermes v Dunbar, Forfar West End v Shotts, Penicuik/ Kilbirnie v Lanark, Kennoway v Blantyre Vics, Thorniewood v East Kilbride, Rossvale v Banks O’Dee, Troon v Yoker, Newtongrange v Cumbernauld, Hurlford v Musselburgh, Arthurlie/ Lesmahagow v Coupar Angus, Gartcairn v Maud, Rob Roy v Glenafton, Vale of Leven v Bonnyrigg Rose, Carnoustie v Petershill, Boness v Kilwinning, Lochee Utd v Johnstone Burgh, Tranent v Jeanfield, Glencairn v Stonehaven, Crossgates v Beith, Blackburn v Annbank/Colony Park, Hill of Beath v Auchinleck Talbot.
