Duo go for glory in TS Open Tour

Two Renfrewshi­re tennis stars are in action in the coveted TS 1000 main event this weekend.

Lee Wishart and Strathgryf­fe Tennis and Squash Club’s Scott Docherty are among some of the top Scottish players who will descend on the National Tennis Centre at the University of Stirling for the TS Open Tour final round.

Over 350 players have competed in the new initiative aimed at encouragin­g more players to play competitiv­e tennis, no matter their standard.

Both draws are set to be very exciting with a number of top players involved.

In the men’s draw, 15 of the top 30 British-ranked Scottish players will feature alongside a number of players who have received World ranking points or played men’s ITF events, such as Scott Duncan, Nicolas Rosenzweig and Robert Leck.

Joining these players in the draw will be the four men and four women TS 500 qualifiers who will be looking to cause an upset.

Among these is tournament organiser and University of Stirling head coach, Euan McGinn, and Strathgryf­fe’s Docherty.

Action continues through until the finals on Sunday with the winners walking away with the £700 top prize.

Prize money will also be awarded to finalists and semi-finalists.

Tournament organiser Mike Cohen said: “The TS 1000 event is the final stage of the TS Open Tour competitio­n which has seen over 350 players take part across Scotland, and we are looking forward to seeing some exciting matches over the weekend.

“Life Fit Wellness will also be supporting the event by providing competitor­s with free physiother­apy throughout the tournament as well as offering 30-minute massages for £20 .

“Supporters and the public are welcome to come along and show their support for what is sure to be a great advertisem­ent for tennis in Scotland.”
