Learn to recycle clothes

-

Buddies are doing their bit to reduce the world’s carbon footprint by learning how to recycle unwanted or damaged clothes.

Charity RIG Arts is hosting an upcycling event on Saturday, November 25, when visitors can learn how to transform clothes that might otherwise be thrown in a landfill site.

Rebecca Livesy- Wright, arts project worker for RIG Arts, said: “The aim of this event is to show people what they can do with fabric that is damaged or unwanted to save them from putting them in the bin.

“Clothing is one of the biggest issues in landfill sites at the moment and more needs to be done to help reduce our carbon footprint.”

Held at Glentanar Court, Seedhill Road, Paisley, visitors can learn how to turn a splash of bleach into a design, screen printing or even how to make an Advent calendar out of old pockets.

Those who fancy a spot of shopping can browse the pre-loved clothes stall or even just stop and chat with a cup of tea or coffee.

“We hope to reach out to members of the local community to come together, learn something new and perhaps make new friends,” Rebecca added.

“We welcome people of all ages and abilities, even if you have no crafting experience at all.

“Our arts events are great fun and we encourage everyone to come along.”

The event takes place from 1pm till 4pm and entry is free.
