Brute’s attack left his girlfriend in agony

Thug threw glass at partner

- Chris Taylor

A bully left his girlfriend in agony after hurling a glass ornament at her.

James Quinn, 32, left Margaret Anne Edgar with severe injuries after launching the missile during a rammy at home.

He admitted hurting the woman by tossing the glassware when the case was called at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Sheriff Brian Murphy called for checks into the brute’s background before decided his fate. He said: “Your plea has been noted. “The case has been adjourned for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report.”

Quinn pled guilty to acting in a culpable or reckless manner.

The court was told he grabbed an ornament before chucking it across the room at the family home in Cedar Avenue, Johnstone.

Ms Edgar was struck by the flying glass and left severely injured during the row on June 11.

Quinn had originally been accused of pinning his partner against a wall in the flat before striking her on the head with the object.

He was convicted of a domesticallyaggravated offence after his plea to an amended charge was accepted.

Defence lawyer Tony Callahan provided no explanation for his client’s behaviour.

Quinn has been told to meet with social workers to provide the court with more information on his background.

A report will give details on any past or current convictions and will be used by the sheriff to determine which punishment should be handed out.

Refusal to comply with the probe can see offenders hauled back into the dock to explain their behaviour.

Those dodging meetings with social work staff will be reported to a sheriff, who will decide whether further punishment should be applied.

Quinn, now of Well Street, Paisley, has been ordered to return on December 22 for sentencing.
