GIRL POWER

Players take a bow

- Craig Ritchie

Gleniffer Thistle girls were the big winners at the club’s fifth annual awards presentation this week.

The up-and-coming Paisley side continue to catch the eye on and off the field as they clock up praise from across the leagues.

And it is an exciting time to be involved with Gleniffer Thistle, with the club preparing to launch its own team in the Scottish Women’s League – providing a clear pathway for girls aged 15 and older to make their way through the ranks.

SFA club development manager Corrie Campbell was on hand to dish out the prizes on the night – with a number of trophies to be picked up.

Following a successful season, Laura Lalikova was crowned Thistle’s Under-15s player of the year.

And there proved to be little between the teammates in the players’ player vote, with Danni Scott and Maya Little sharing the gong.

Cara Weir was the big winner for the Under- 13s, taking home the player of the year award.

And Kerry Ross was on hand to pick up the players’ player of the year accolade having impressed her teammates over the course of the campaign.

Gleniffer Thistle continue to push forward their girls section as they aim to roll out even more sides throughout the youth section.

Going forward to next season, the girls section will be running teams at the following age groups: Under9s – for players born in the years 2009, 2010 and 2011; Under-11s – for players born in the years 2007 and 2008; Under-13s – for players born in the years 2005 and 2006; and Under15s – for players born in the years 2003 and 2004.

Players or parents who are interested should contact Gleniffer Thistle’s head of girls development Lynn McInally on 07918875409.
