Charity panto time: Oh yes it is

- Football

A group from Enable Scotland is looking forward to a trip to the panto thanks to youngsters from Renfrew Victoria Football Club.

The club donated £200 to the charity, which allowed them to book buses from their base in Sandy Road in Renfrew to watch Rapunzel in Johnstone tomorrow night.

Renfrew Victoria has enjoyed a long association with Enable Scotland over the years, helping with its fundraising and events, including handing over cash raised at the club’s summer football festivals at Kirklandneuk each year.

The club opened the Socca Tottz Academy four years ago to provide youngsters aged three to six with an introduction to football by improving agility and helping them to learn the skills necessary to enjoy the game in later years.

At present the academy has 42 enrolled and operates at Renfrew High School on a Wednesday night at 6.30pm, with new members always welcome.

As the academy was evolving in 2013, Stuart Walker, who attends Enable’s Renfrew branch each week, was approached to help coach the youngsters .

He is now ever-present each Wednesday helping out the Renfrew Victoria coaches who deliver the training sessions.

Stuart Wild, from the club, said: “We as a club have had the pleasure in supporting such a good cause over the years, as the volunteers at Sandy Road provide a fantastic service each Thursday. Stuart never misses a session and is terrific with the kids in the academy.”
