Snakes alive! Bar’s fundraiser is a hit

-

Eek! She’s six-feet long, yellow, and called Royanne.

The striking Burmese Python may look fearsome but she actually has a heart of gold.

Royanne visited Paisley’s Craigielea Bar with her handler in a bid to raise money for less fortunate children.

It was all part of the popular watering hole’s very own Christmas toy appeal.

The yellow snake delighted patrons who gave a donation for the privilege of being photographed with her, and raised more than £1,000.

Pub manager Issie Donnelly said everyone was thrilled by Royanne.

“Quite a lot of customers had their photos taken with it,”she said.“We had a bucket marked‘Christmas’and people put money in it.”

The journey to the £1,000 total, which will be used to buy the toys, started in September when the Craigielea Bar began to hold fundraisers for their appeal.

“We did it for the first time last year and raised £360,”said Issie.“So this year we’ve doubled and doubled it, which is great.”

The toys bought from the £1,000 raised at the Craigielea Bar will be given to the Paisley Daily Express Toy Appeal and to Renfrewshire Council social workers for distribution.

Express readers can contribute directly to our appeal by handing in gifts and toys to the Salvation Army Hall, in Mill Street, from Monday to Thursday next week.

Simply take along your donations from 10am to 4pm.

Please do not wrap them, but you can include wrapping paper for use by Salvation Army volunteers of you wish.

If your gift needs batteries, consider including these too.
