Caring Charlie makes winter warmer for those sleeping rough
Kind four-year-old hands out clothes to the homeless
A thoughtful fouryear- old from Paisley is spreading Christmas cheer amongst those living on the streets.
Little Charlie Macdonald has been handing out hats, scarves and gloves to homeless people.
The West Primary pupil wanted to help out after noticing the recent drop in temperatures.
Charlie’s proud mum, Nikki Macdonald, said: “Charlie commented on how cold it had gotten.
“I told him that he was lucky to have a house with central heating and that some people are less fortunate.”
“That, as well as recent work in school for Children in Need, is what got him thinking.”
Primary one pupil Charlie came up with the idea of handing out winter clothing to those without a roof over their heads.
Kind donations from Nikki’s workplace, as well as purchased items, filled up bags with hats, gloves and scarves as a charitable Christmas gesture.
The mother and son duo took to Byres Road, Glasgow, with Nikki being wary about what they would experience.
“I wasn’t worried about what we were doing, just more about how Charlie and the homeless people would react,” she explained. “But he handled it so well. “He went straight over to people and said ‘hi I’m Charlie I have clothes for you’ – he was full of confidence.
“The homeless people we spoke to were lovely.
“Charlie sat with them and they would share stories, asking him about primary one and what he was doing for Christmas.”
Nikki, along with Charlie’s dad, Graeme, are delighted they went along with their young son’s idea.
“He now has an awareness of people who are less fortunate,” Nikki added.
“Reading about it or seeing it on TV is one thing, but he’s experienced it for real.
“These people are on our doorstep, and it’s important to help them out.”
