Project is officially a ROAR-ing success
Volunteers and staff at a well-known older persons’group are celebrating.
Paisley’s ROAR – Connections for Life has been re-awarded the Investing in Volunteering (IiV) certification.
IiV is the UK quality standard for all organisations which involve volunteers in their work. Accreditation lasts for three years. Manager Nicola Hanssen said:“This award is really important to us as it shows that we really do operate to this very high quality standard, but the thing that matters most is the process of involving everyone.
“This week is also National Co-production Week and for people who don’t know what this means, it’s about building trusting relationships and sharing power to make new and exciting things happen.
“The award belongs equally to everyone in ROAR as we all played a part in making this happen.”
Part of the accreditation process for IiV includes an assessor from Volunteer Scotland randomly selecting names registered as volunteers for interview in a bid to get their views on how they are supported and valued.
Nicola said the assessor was bowled over by the positivity of people, and particularly highlighted the shared sense of belonging.
She also re-interviewed a couple of volunteers who she had met three years previously and was struck by how much they had grown in confidence and developed their skills.
Volunteer Len Fox said:“ROAR would not exists without us and our team would not exist without the Roar staff.”
ROAR offers health and wellbeing services for older people.
It currently has more than 170 volunteers and is always seeking to recruit more as the numbers of older people looking for community services continually increases.
