Diana would be so proud

-

A dedicated group of volunteers at Castlehead High have been hailed for helping their fellow pupils.

The youngsters made a huge impact on the lives of youngsters through the Paisley school’s anti-bullying and paired reading groups.

And Lisa Bowden, 14, Kack Macdonald, 13, Aidan Underwood, 13, and Kate McBurnie, 13, were honoured for their efforts with a prestigious Diana Award.

The four pupils promoted and fundraised for the school’s Paired Reading Club, as well as getting involved in recruiting and training volunteers for the scheme.

A school spokesman said:“The group also act as trusted mentors to vulnerable young people with the At Your Side programme.

“Through the group’s dedication, they have eased the transition period for new Year Seven pupils and increased a number of pupils’reading ages by more than two years.”

The pupils were presented with the awards, which were set up in memory of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, by top crime writer Ian Rankin at a ceremony in Edinburgh’s National Museum of Scotland.

The Castlehead pupils were seen as worthy recipients because they embody Diana’s qualities of kindness, compassion and service. Tessy Ojo, chief executive of The Diana Award, said:“We are proud of the incredible achievements of these young people in Scotland.

“As we approach the year of the Year of Young People 2018, we are making a commitment to offer every secondary school in Scotland our peer-led Anti-Bullying Ambassadors training programme.”
