Thorn Athletic hit the mark once again

SFA recognition for Johnstone club

- Craig Ritchie

Thorn Athletic have been re- accredited with the Quality Mark Standard by the Scottish Football Association.

The Johnstone club – which now has almost 200 members – was recognised at Hampden Park last week at a ceremony involving many other successful clubs from across the West region.

Thorn originally received the award a couple of years ago, but were required to be reassessed recently and were delighted to be recommended again.

On top of the club’s successful ongoing Coerver Partnership, the club is growing all the time.

Quality Mark guarantees that the club meets certain established standards in the areas of coaching, governance and organisation.

Coaches from the 2007 age group, Neil Fox and Robert Stevenson, along with players Adam and Jake, were presented with the award at the national stadium, and then took in the Scottish League One match between Queen’s Park and East Fife.

They also had the chance to listen to motivational speakers and enjoy the hospitality on the day.

Club secretary Mark McGee: “We are very pleased to receive the Quality Mark award again.

“However, going forward, we are keen to achieve the next level to show that we are progressing.

“We have seen growth over recent years that has now settled down and we look forward to working with the SFA to achieve our goals.”
