Town has plenty of reasons to celebrate
Creative Renfrewshire marks Paisley’s milestone year
16.12.2017 A lively meeting of some of the most creative people in Paisley was held at the town hall.
Creative Renfrewshire Network held a ‘ What’s Next? Connect, Share and Celebrate’ event in a bid to map out its plans for the coming months.
And the mood was positive despite Paisley’s recent failure to become UK City of Culture 2021.
A Creative Renfrewshire spokesman said: “Although Paisley may not have been crowned with the UK City of Culture 2021 title, events across Renfrewshire continue to put a spotlight on the area’s vibrant creative scene.”
The event saw talks from speakers including Gary Kerr and Andy Campbell of Paisley Community Trust, who spoke about their ambitious Baker Street plans to transform part of Paisley into an arts hub; Keren McKean, who has worked in the music industry for over 20 years including managing Snow Patrol; Alan Clark of youth arts charity Create Paisley; and Alison McCandlish who is studying for a PhD in cultural planning.
“During 2017 there has been an incredible UK spotlight on Renfrewshire, catalysed partly through Paisley’s UK City of Culture 2021 bid and also the area’s impressive creative network of artists, designers, creative businesses, practitioners – with backgrounds in music, performance, design, film, digital, literature, heritage, culture, visual arts and more,”a spokesman added.
“Creative Renfrewshire is bringing the creative community together – to celebrate and share inspiring activities the people are making happen.”
Creative Renfrewshire Network is a network of third sector creative and cultural organisations operating throughout Paisley.
