Could you bring Davie some festive cheer?

-

A man is desperately trying to trace his Paisley family roots and see a picture of his mother in time for Christmas.

Davie Garrity, 69, was told he was abandoned by his mother Elizabeth and put into the care system at 14 months old.

It was only after tracking down his care records a few years ago that Davie discovered it was only following a period of very ill health for himself that the single mum made the heartbreaking decision to put him into care.

Elizabeth Garrity, or Ramsey, died in 1978, aged 69, at Dykebar Hospital in Paisley.

She lived with her parents William Turnbull, a butcher, and Isabella Turnbull in Linwood and lived the majority of her life in the Paisley and Linwood areas.

Davie said:“I’m so desperate to see just a photo of my mum and it must be out there somewhere. Getting to see my mum’s face for the first time would be amazing.

“It would be the best Christmas present anyone could give.”

Elizabeth married Thomas Garrity, a motor mechanic, at St Margaret’s Chapel, in Stanley Street, Glasgow on October 7 1939.

She then married James Ramsey, a general labourer at Maxwell Church in Glasgow on December 30, 1954, and moved to Paisley Road West.

Working as a bus conductress for Glasgow Corporation buses in the 1930s and 1940s, Elizabeth went on to work as a bond warehouse store person. She was known as Aunty Betty by friends and family.

Anyone with information about, or photographs, of Elizabeth can call Future Pathways on 0800 164 2005 in confidence.
