Glenvale 2002s continued their 100 per cent start to the season – making it 18 out of 18 with another win at the weekend.

It was back to league duty for the Paisley side following their cup triumphs over the past fortnight, taking on Broomhill.

The game started well for Glenvale as they had the opposition on the back foot straight from kick-off.

The back four of John Cummings, Harry Pittaway and the two flying full-backs of Luke Christie and Kyle McLaughlan bombing forward at every occasion.

But the breakthrough seemed to be not too far away, although the visitors were standing firm as ’Vale continued to turn the screw whenever possible.

The Glenvale midfield duo of Anton Calderwood and Sean Borland were undetered in their efforts and were controlling the middle of the park.

They continued to feed the front two of Rhys Best and Andy McColl, creating a number of good opportunities only for the Broomhill keeper to keep them at bay with a number of good saves as the first half remained goalless.

The second half continued in the same vein as Glenvale continued to dominate proceedings. Aidan McLaughlin and Simon Adenkinwa were next to chance their luck, Adenkinwa bursting into the box to only again find the goalkeeper more than a match for their efforts.

It looked like it was going to be one of those days for Glenvale until the midfield run of Cameron Crooks unlocked their defence and rifled it into the bottom corner.

At the other end, ’ Vale keeper Ciaran McDowell needed to concentrate as the visitors started pushing forward in a bid to level the game.

But a couple of chances fell to Adam Bridges and Fraser Lee to keep up the pressure on the Broomhill goal.

There would be no more scoring and the Glenvale boys completed a highly successful year top of the league and aiming to go one better in the Scottish Cup.
