A brand new school building is officially first class – after pupils celebrated its official opening.

The new and improved Barrhead High School opened its doors to staff and pupils in August 2017.

Special guests were invited to the official launch this month, where pupils hosted a special ceremony to mark the occasion.

Headteacher Andy Sinclair told the Paisley Daily Express: “All the pupils and staff at Barrhead High are already settling into our fabulous new school and the official opening marked another special milestone in our journey.

“We have watched this facility grow over the past year and it has been exciting to get in and get started on the next chapter of Barrhead High’s history.

“The design of the building has created quality learning spaces which will help all of our pupils to achieve their best.

“The learning process will be greatly enhanced by these superb new facilities.”

Councillor Paul O’Kane, a former Barrhead High Pupil, unveiled a commemorative plaque and the school’s choir and band performed for invited guests, including local politicians.

“It is an absolute privilege to perform the official opening for this wonderful new Barrhead High,” he said.

“We are committed to delivering the very best education for all our children and young people and the state-of-theart facilities now available at Barrhead High will certainly provide fabulous learning opportunities for all its pupils.

“It is without doubt a school that the pupils will be proud to be a part of and will provide a springboard for continuing to raise attainment levels across the board.”

The state-of-the-art school replaces the previous building which had been in use for 46 years, and has been built on a site next to the old school.

Construction work started in March 2016, with around 600 pupils moving in at the start of this academic year.

The former school building, adjacent to the new school, is being prepared for demolition.

A new running track and sports pitch will be created on the old site, as well as car parking and the relocation of the skate park.

This work is scheduled for completion by the end of next year.
