Windows of home blown out as parents and kids slept

- Chris Taylor

Vandals have left a family terrified after torching their luxury four-by-four car in the driveway of their house.

The parents were home with their two children when windows at their plush home were blown out by the blaze.

The thugs pounced after dark when the youngsters would have been in bed.

Detective Sergeant Ross McDonald, of Paisley CID, warned the attack could have ended in tragedy.

He said: “This was a reckless act at a family home and it was only through luck that nobody was hurt.

“This was incredibly dangerous and could have resulted in serious injuries.

“We would appeal to dog walkers, or anybody who may have been in the area at the time, to come forward if they saw anything.”

A man, 32, and woman, 29, were in the house on Paisley’s Victoria Road when the firebugs struck.

Flames leapt up from the bonnet of the black Range Rover Evoque.

Heat from the fire shattered windows of the nearby house.

The burned-out car was still sitting in the driveway yesterday — surrounded by broken glass.

It suffered extensive damage to its engine and front end.

The motor — which sells for more than £30,000 — may be beyond repair.

A neighbour dialled 999 and raised the alarm after spotting the fire around 12.25am yesterday.

They told how a man in dark clothing was seen nearby around the time of the drama.

It is believed he may have made off in a blue car.

Police are scouring CCTV and combing the wreck for clues to the attacker.

DS McDonald added: “We would ask anybody in the street or those who were passing through to check their dash cams.

“These have become more sophisticated and are capable of capturing footage which can be very helpful.”

Those with information should call Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
