Just what the doctor ordered

-

A Paisley couple had everything to celebrate in January 1985.

They had just scooped a £82,785 in their share of a record £109,000 Rangers pools payout.

The prize money was high for David and Margaret Doctor because it had built up over the past four weeks through cancelled games.

And the rules said there must be a payout in the fourth week.

A delighted David, 73, whose 20 pence stake and plan clinched the win, said:“I just can’t believe it.

“It’s only a pity we didn’t win at the beginning of our retirement.”

David, a former Post Office worker, added:“I think we’ll treat ourselves to a nice cruise – somewhere warm. But we’re not going on a mad spending spree.”

His wife, who worked at Slumberland’s bed factory, in Paisley, until she retired eight years ago, said:“We’re settled here.

“There wouldn’t be any point in moving to a flashy new home.

“But I think we’ll decorate it right through and maybe get new furniture and carpets,”she said.

The couple, who had a married daughter and two grandchildren living in Paisley, said they will also share in the windfall.
