Only our best will be good enough Turley’s warning to Pirates

- Craif Ritchie

Paisley Pirates head coach Ian Turley insists he is taking nothing for granted as his side travels to take on Solway Stingrays tomorrow.

Pirates travel south in the return fixture of the league match at Braehead Arena in November when the Renfrewshire side recorded a big win.

The 18-1 scoreline was the side’s biggest victory since they moved to Braehead in 2007.

Turley told Express Sport: “We beat them comfortably at Braehead earlier in the season but what you tend to find with new teams is that they improve very quickly as they get more games together, and I’ve no doubt that’s what we’ll find when we line up against them.

“They also won their first game last weekend, beating Kilmarnock Thunder, and when you’ve been turning up week after week, only to lose, then you get your first win, the difference it makes to your confidence and morale is huge.”

Pirates have been in fine form this season, with last weekend’s 6-3 victory over Aberdeen Lynx the latest in a line of impressive performances.

Turley and assistant coach Adam Walker have been delighted with the progress the club continue to be making both on and off the ice – with Walker also turning his hand to playing as well.

Turley praised the impact his coach has made since arriving in the summer, but says the whole team deserves credit for their recent results.

He added: “Adam and I have been drumming it into the squad that, regardless of how our opponents play, we have a standard of performance to maintain.

“Our level has been pretty good so far this season, but in being consistent to a good standard, you have to keep that going regardless of who the opposition is and, indeed, look to raise it whenever you can.

“When you are playing to a consistently high level then the results will come, regardless of the opposition, and I think we proved that last week in beating Aberdeen, who are one of the top teams in the SNL, 6-3.

“Sure, Adam got a lot of welldeserved credit for producing five goals out of the six, but what pp people shouldn’t forget is that at the other guys in the team were contributing towards ds the plays that got us six goals and which kept our opponents to three.

“This season has been all about team performances, and continuing to produce e good ones, and that’s what hat we’ll be aiming to do every time we go out onto the e ice.”
