Bookies held up by masked robber

Thug fled with thousands of pounds of takings

Police have launched a manhunt for a masked raider who robbed a bookies.

The thug burst into the Ladbrokes shop in Erskine and threatened staff, before making off with a four-figure sum.

Officers say a 20- year- old worker was left badly shaken after the incident, but was unhurt.

It’s believed the suspect grabbed cash from the till and safe before fleeing the scene.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the suspect running away from the Bargarran Square shop at around 7pm on Monday night.

It is understood detectives are still investigat­ing whether a weapon was used during the robbery.

Extensive enquiries are ongoing, with CID and uniformed officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

The suspect is described as white, in his late 30s to early 40s and around 6ft in height and of slim build.

He was wearing a black hooded jacket, navy tracksuit bottoms with red stripes, black trainers and black gloves. He had a black scarf covering his face.

The lead investigat­or on the case said he is keen to speak anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspicious­ly in a nearby underpass leading into Blantyre Court.

Detective Sergeant Alastair Semple, of Paisley Police Office, said: “The investigat­ion into this robbery is continuing, and officers are carrying out enquiries in the local area and gathering CCTV footage.

“I would urge anyone who may have seen this man acting suspicious­ly in the area and near to the underpass into Blantyre Court, or anyone with informatio­n that will assist the ongoing investigat­ion to contact Paisley Police Office through 101.

A Ladbrokes spokeswoma­n said: “We can confirm an incident took place on Monday evening and we are assisting police with their enquiries.”
