Woman fined for nasty verbal attack on her ex-girlfriend

Former lover and pal rounded on woman in street

A yob who hurled abuse at her ex-girlfriend in the street has been fined.

Kara Watt and her pal Amanda Kelly ended up in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court where they admitted shouting and swearing at Lisa Gilmour.

The court heard how Watt and Ms Gilmour had previously been in a relationship, which had soured.

Watt, 29, and Kelly, 28, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear and alarm to others by following Ms Gilmour in St James Street and Moss Street, shouting and swearing at her and refusing to stop on October 13 last year.

The court heard that Watt had fallen out with Ms Gilmour after she refused to hand over personal items that had been left at the property they had shared.

On the day in question, Watt, formerly of Craigbog Avenue, Johnstone and now of Waverley Road, Paisley, and Kelly, of Cartside Avenue, Johnstone, had come across Ms Gilmour in the street by chance and started hurling insults.

They were heard to shout “cow” and “liar” and the episode was captured by CCTV cameras.

When Ms Gilmour returned home to Johnstone, she went straight to police and reported what had happened.

Both accused were subsequently arrested.

Defence agent Jonathan Manson said that his client’s relationship with the complainer had been problematic and the split was acrimonious.

They met on this occasion purely by coincidence and since that incident there had been no further contact.

It was unlikely there would be any repetition.

Jackie Jobson, representing Kelly, said her client had allowed herself to become involved as she felt strongly that Ms Gilmour was “being unreasonable” in failing to pay any heed to the request to have the property returned.

“She accepts she made a bad judgement on that day,” she added.

Sheriff John Hamilton QC said that as Watt had been the instigator, she would be ordered to pay a £200 financial penalty and Kelly, who played a lesser role, was given a £150 fine.
