Racist yob’s violent threats to neighbours

Drunk thug terrorised couple with a golf club after row

- David Campbell

A yob who racially abused his neighbours and threatened them with a golf club has avoided jail.

Lout Thomas Lynch, 22, kicked off and got involved when his dad started rowing with neighbours.

He appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court after terrorising and threatening Jagjit and Patrycja Singh.

He had previously admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards the couple, and brandishing a golf club at them while uttering threats of violence in Waulkmill Avenue, Barrhead, on September 12 last year.

He also pleaded guilty to acting in a racially aggravated manner towards Patrycja Singh two days later.

The court heard that Lynch’s dad had become embroiled in an argument with the Singhs and he had drunkenly become involved.

Defence agent Matt Lynch said: “He had been drinking heavily on that occasion, to the extent that he didn’t remember it at all.

“I told him that in the strength of the evidence against him it was likely he would be convicted, and he now accepts that.

“He knows that this could attract a custodial sentence.

“It does seem to be a matter that could be dealt with by way of a community payback order.

“The accused lived with his dad and it all started with him.

“His dad was having a row with the complainer and he got involved.

“The complainer has moved away now so scope for further incidents has been stopped.”

Sheriff James Spy told Lynch that he was lucky not be jailed over the incidents.

He said: “I will impose a community payback order of 12 months supervision with 180 hours of unpaid work to be carried out within 10 months and I will fix an early review.

“This is a direct alternative to custody, so, if you don’t do it you will be locked up.”

Lynch, of Waulkmill Avenue, Barrhead, will return to court on March 26 for a review of his order before Sheriff Spy.
