Kind volunteers are encouraging people in Renfrewshire to take on an epic walking challenge to help vulnerable families in the community.

Support workers from Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde are gearing up for the 2018 Kiltwalk and are hoping as many Buddies as possible get involved.

The popular six, 13 and 26mile hikes take place in Glasgow on April 8.

Walkers who take part are able to raise money for a Scottish charity of their choice.

Home-Start scheme manager Alison Taylor is urging people to sign up and walk for the organisation, which makes a big difference to families every day of the week.

“The main aim of Home-Start is building stronger families,” Alison told the Express.

“Our volunteers work tirelessly to help parents, carers and children who may need help in any way.

“We provide support with parenting skills and overcoming difficult times.

“I know that the impact Home- Start has had on these families is absolutely incredible.

“That ’ s why we are encouraging people to try the Kiltwalk and do it for HomeStart.”

With events in Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh as well as Glasgow, the Kiltwalk raises millions of pounds for charities across the country.

Ezpress readers of all ages and abilities can get involved and don their finest tartan attire on the day.

Thanks to Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation, each Kiltwalker’s fundraising receives an extra 40 per cent donation.

This means that if one participant were to raise £100 for Home-Start, the charity would receive £140 .

Pounding the pavements of Paisley and beyond in training for the 26-mile Mighty Stride event, volunteers from HomeStart’s centre in Back Sneddon Street have already got a squad of recuits on board.

Alison adds that when it comes to physical challenges such as the Kiltwalk, it’s a case of the more the merrier.

“This will be quite a challenge and I am a little nervous,” she added.

“I do think being part of a team is key.

“Everyone taking part from Home-Start will be walking together.

“That motivation wi l l defintely get us through and it will all be worth it in the end.”
