STV weatherman Sean hands out cheque

- Kathleen Speirs

The forecast’s looking bright for one Paisley group after receiving a vital cash boost from a much-loved weatherman.

St ronger Communities Glenburn has been awarded a grant of £134,976 from the STV Children’s Appeal.

STV star and proud Buddie Sean Batty popped along to Glenburn Pre- Five Centre to present the cheque.

A representative from the group said: “We are so thankful for this money.

“It will help continue the project in Glenburn and in a new community and will provide the area with a pot of money to be spent on community members’ ideas.

“That, in turn, will help make Glenburn a better place for children to grow up.”

This is not the first time the lifeline organisation has been the beneficiary of the STV charity’s cash pot.

The broadcaster has sponsored Stronger Communities Glenburn for the past three years.

The project aims to foster a safe and friendly environment for children to grow up in.

Its programme manager Laura Devine told the Express: “We have been working in Glenburn for the past three years, getting to know local people and services by running various events to find out what the community’s priorities are and support them to create and implement local action plans.

“Now, we want to bring the local people, including children, and local services together so that they can begin taking the lead and work together to make Glenburn a better place to grow up.”

With fitness classes, food tasting sessions, toddler groups and more, Glenburn is on the up thanks to the hard work of the project’s staff and volunteers.

STV Children’s Appeal is a Scottish charity appeal organised by STV and The Hunter Foundation, in aid of the STV Charitable Trust.
