House prices up by £8k

Homeowners in Paisley are quids in, with house prices soaring by almost £8,000 in the last year.

The average price of a property in Renfrewshi­re rose to £121,478 by December 2017, compared with £113,846 in the same month of 2016.

Statistics released by the Registers of Scotland (ROS) shows Buddies witnessed a 6.7 per cent hike, worth £7,632 to every family.

The area’s real estate performed almost as well as the Scottish market up until the end of 2017, which showed property values increasing nationally by 7.7 per cent.

Kenny Crawford, of ROS, said: “Average prices in Scotland continued their upward trend in December with an increase of 7.7 per cent when compared to December 2016.

“Average prices have been steadily increasing each month since March 2016, when compared with the same month of the previous year.”

However, the number of houses changing hands in the area witnessed a slowdown towards the end of the year.

There were 308 sales registered last October, compared with 325 in October of the previous year.

But the volume of sales across the country increased by almost four per cent.

The average price of a property in Renfrewshi­re in December 2017 was £148,783 — up 7.7 per cent on the previous year’s value of £138,206.

Neighbour ing East Renfrewshi­re saw a 3.2 per cent rise in property prices, with the average home valued at £224,475, up from £217,511 in the same month of last year.
