TV star to launch new centre for veterans

-

A new facility centre for Armed Forces veterans is to be opened by a former SAS member and TV star.

Colin Maclachlan, star of Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins, will cut the ribbon at the Erskine Reid Macewen Activity Centre.

The venue will offer socialising opportunities, such as sports and recreation, music, films and even lunch.

There will also be a chance to brush up on skills, including as computing, woodwork and arts.

And drop-in sessions will be delivered by a range of advice organisations.

The centre, which is located in a 19th century former stable building, is intended to be accessible to veterans living in the community.

And they will have a choice of how often to visit the facility, which will be manned by both staff and volunteers.

It will be open to any veteran who has served as a member of one of the HM Armed Forces as a regular, a reservist or on national service.

Those who were members of the Merchant Marine and were deployed on active service in support of the armed forces, a member of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, or a member of the Home Guard can use the facilities.

The official opening will be on Wednesday, February 28.

Veterans are welcome to go along any time between 9.30am and 3.30pm, from Monday to Friday.
