Crimestoppers is putting up a £10,000 reward for information on the murder of Renfrew dad Paul Mathieson.

The charity is offering the reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Paul’s murder in the early hours of Sunday, January 14.

Paul, who was 37 years old, suffered what was described by police as a “sustained and brutal” attack leaving him with serious injuries.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and placed in an induced coma. Sadly his condition deteriorated and he died six days later.

Angela Parker, national mana g e r for Scotland Crimestoppers, said: “This is devastating for his family and friends and they now deserve to know who has taken him away from them.

“Paul was loved by his family, but most importantly he was a father and his murder has left a 12-year-old boy without his dad.

“This murder occurred on the edge of the town centre and we hope someone, somewhere will have information.

“We urge you to please speak up and help keep your community safe by contacting our charity. I promise you that nobody will know you spoke to us and that you will remain 100 per cent anonymous. Always.”

Paul was found in Houston Street, close to Wilson Street, in Renfrew town centre in the early hours of January 14.

He had been drinking at The Kind Man’s pub and then at the Western Bar on Hairst Street earlier in the night.

He left there just after midnight and used a fast food takeaway before heading home.

As he approached his home on Houston Street, police believe the suspect attacked him following a brief conversation.

A passer-by found Paul lying in the street at around 1am.

Police have spoken to more than 200 people during the course of the enquiry.

They believe that Paul may have known his attacker and the key to this investigation is finding the motive.

Paul’s sister Amanda made an emotional appeal for help earlier this month.

She said: “Paul was an average young man, but he was special to us. He was a brother, a nephew, an uncle, a grandson and a partner.

“But, most importantly, Paul was a father, and his murder left a 12-year-old boy without a dad.

“Paul left that night to go out for a few drinks – however, he never returned and we never saw him alive again.”

The reward will only quality if information is passed to Crimestoppers’ 0800 555 111 number or via the non-traceable anonymous online form at www. crimestoppers-uk.org

Information passed directly to police will not qualify.
