Television debut for OAP movie-makers

Duo aim to inspire other pensioners to live life to the full

- Kathleen Speirs

It was lights, camera action for Renfrewshire’s most inspiring group of pensioners.

Two of the stars of Stay Mobile Stay Connected, a series of films produced by OAPs through Roar-Connections for Life, were interviewed on BBC Scotland’s current affairs programme, Timeline.

Stay Mobile Stay Connected shows a group of Buddies in their 80s and 90s discussing the trials and tribulations of getting older.

Elizabeth McLean and Jim Anderson chatted to presenters Shereen Nanjiani and Glenn Campbell last week about their experience of getting behind and in front of the camera.

Pampered and preened by the BBC’s make- up department, the proud pair told all in the studio.

“I never thought in a month of Sunday’s I’d be sitting here as a filmmaker,” widower Jim said during the interview.

“Joining Roar and making these films has made one heck of a difference to my life.”

The interview showed clips of the six films shot and produced in Paisley by the pensioners, with help from Media Co-op.

After a successful launch and screening with esteemed health care professionals, the team were invited to tell their story on camera.

Shereen then asked Elizabeth what advice she would give to older, isolated people watching the television interview.

Elizabeth said: “Make the effort to get up and go out.

“I try to do this every day, even if it’s just chatting with the neighbours. “It makes all the difference.” You can catch up on the full Timeline programme by visiting www. bbc. co. uk/ programmes/ b08cgtbq/episodes/guide
