A Paisley garage boss has been forced to beef up security after teenage yobs caused“catastrophic” damage to vans parked for sale.

Vandals targeted around 12 motors at Northern Commercials over the course of three nights, with 20 windows in total smashed during their wrecking spree.

The cost for repairs run to more than £ 4,000, and the Linwood Road showroom owner, has been left picking up the pieces.

Tom Bradley said: “They were here last Tuesday into Wednesday, Friday night and then again on Sunday night.

“It is catastrophic to be honest. They have smashed up windows on 12 vans I think, with 20 windows being smashed.

“We have images on CCTV and the police are dealing with it. We moved here less than a year ago from our former site in Ferguslie where we were for seven years and never had any real problems.

“These scumbags are just running riot, smashing up windows and bus stops.

Tom says he is working with his insurers to establish if he is covered for the damage but says the impact goes beyond financial loss.

“It is all the downtime where we can’t sell. When we are clearing up the mess and all the inconvenience involved,” he explained. “We are having extra fences put up now to try to prevent some of this and that is costing thousands in itself, so it is having a huge impact on my business.

“We are just trying to make a living and then this happens.”

“They are just so brazen, they have hoods up, but they walk straight at the CCTV camera.”

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, has appealed for any information to catch the crooks

She said: “We have received reports that a number of van windows were smashed at the Northern Commercials in Linwood Road, Paisley.

“Thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused during this incident and we would ask anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to get in touch with us.”
