Great line-up of speakers

- Craig Ritchie

More than 500 people are set for this year’s St Mirren Player of the Year Dinner, with all tickets now sold out.

The event, sponsored by estate agents Walker Laird, has become a staple of the Saints’ calendar in recent years.

A number of awards will be dished out on the night, while St Mirren legend Steven Thompson will also be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.

The League Cupwinning striker wi l l follow in the footsteps of a host of former Buddies, including the likes of Tony Fitzpatrick, Alex Wright and Campbell Money, by going down in the Buddies history books.

The highly-anticipated event will take place at the culmination of the league season, with players and punters descending on Renfrew’s Normandy Hotel on Saturday, May 5.

Keeping everything in order on the night will be well- known Saints’ supporter and journalist Bill Leckie.

And he will be joined by former criminal defence lawyer Bill Copland, who will tell hilarious stories of his legal career, while one of the funniest speakers on the circuit, Willie Allan MBE will also take the floor.

Every guest will receive a special souvenir brochure and a corporate gift to commemorate the event, and the traditional raffle and grand auction will return for yet another year.

A club spokeman said: “The Player of the Year Awards Dinner is without a doubt the jewel in the crown of this famous old club’s social activities and this year will be no different.

“Our speakers are simply top drawer.

“Prepare to laugh the night away and enjoy an evening in keeping with the fine traditions of the club.”
