Let’s help farm keep up the good work
MP’s fundraising plea after vandals target project
23.02.2018 A Renfrewshire politician has praised the work of staff at Lamont City Farm after it was targeted by vandals.
Gavin Newlands MP visited the Erskine community project, which has spent the last 41 years improving animal welfare and helping to rescue animals at risk.
The farm’s main cabin was recently daubed with graffiti, leading to an online funding campaign to raise cash to clear up the mess.
Mr Newlands, who represents Paisley and Renfrewshire North at Westminster, hit out at the mindless yobs over the recent incident and praised the positive impact the farm has had on the community.
He said: “Lamont City Farm is a well- established part of the wider Renfrewshire community.
“They have provided opportunities for countless school children over the years to see some fantastic animals and it’s an outrage that they’ve been targeted by senseless vandals.”
Lamont City Farm is run by volunteers and provides children and adults from Renfrewshire and beyond the chance to meet a range of animals, from horses to llamas, exotic reptiles and farm animals such as sheep and pigs.
The farm also runs workshops on animal care, welfare and husbandry.
The MP added: “They provide a fantastic resource to Renfrewshire and help educate kids about the importance of animal welfare.
“In addition, many of its animals have been saved from a life of neglect, abuse and suffering.
“To hear that this organisation has recently been targeted by vandals is especially distressing.
“I hope all those who have visited Lamont City Farm over the years, and have witnessed the excellent job that they do, will contribute to this fundraiser if they are able to.”
Police say they are still carrying out enquiries into the crime and appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
