Boozy pal lost the plot

Thug caused chaos when lifted by cops

- Ron Moore

A boozed- up yob who sparked mayhem with cops after being lifted during drinking session has been slated by a sheriff.

Jamie Cadle, 24, battered his head against the window of a police van while shouting and swearing, after he was arrested for causing a disturbance at his mate’s house.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Cadle, who has previously served time in custody for another crime, showed up drunk and made threats to his pal Andrew Grant at a house in Greenend Avenue, Johnstone, on January 21.

Fiscal depute Megan Clancy said: “At 2.30am, Mr Grant was within his home address having a drink in the living room when the accused attended at the house and he was under the influence of alcohol.

“He wanted to have a drink with the witness. Mr Grant wanted him to leave. The accused refused and an argument developed. The accused began shouting and swearing at the witness.

“He then went into the kitchen and shouted, ‘Whoever comes in here is getting it’.

“Police officers attended and the accused was informed he was under arrest.

“He was searched and a small amount of cannabis was found in his trouser pocket.”

The prosecutor explained that Cadle kicked off during his arrest and began shouting and swearing at officers.

She added: “He was banging his head against the glass window in the police car.”

This week, Cadle, of Highcraig Avenue, Johnstone, pleaded guilty to charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person fear or alarm by shouting, swearing, uttering threats and repeatedly striking his head against a window.

He also admitted possession of cannabis.

Defence agent Charlie McCusker said Mr Grant and his client were friends.

He added: “They had been drinking earlier at a pub in the company of other people. They are known to each other. They had got a taxi so they could continue drinking.

“My client wants to apologise for this incident. He didn’t think the matter would end up as it did. He realises he is in a precarious position with this disposal, given his previous record.”

Sheriff Tom McCartney said he came close to jailing Cadle, who had been freed from prison early for another offence and placed on a supervised release order at the time of his latest offence.

He said: “Given that you are currently released early from a prison sentence, which does not expire until October, you are in a very difficult position.

“Any sentence for this matter can be in addition you serving the remainder of that sentence.”

He told Cadle he was deferring sentence for three months for him to be of good behaviour, and any further offending will result in him going to jail.

Cadle will reappear in court on May 22 for a review of his conduct.
