A hole lot of bother

-

In the recent Express article ‘Gone to pot’, SNP councillor Natalie Don lays the blame for the state of repairs of Renfrewshire’s roads at the door of the previous Labour administration.

For the record, Labour’s investment in this year’s roads budget was £6.716million — the biggest ever single year allocation.

Councillor Don also fails to mention that during the previous Labour administration — had the SNP opposition had its way at the council budget meeting last February — there would have been less — not more — money devoted to pothole repairs.

The alternative SNP opposition budget proposed an investment in road repairs of £6.016m, some £700,000 less than the amount Labour approved for repairs when in power.

Is this a case of Councillor Don not doing her homework?

Or is it yet another shameful attempt by an SNP politician to mislead the people of Renfrewshire by peddling untruths and false information?

As the saying goes, you can have your own opinions, but you’re not entitled to your own facts.

I invite Councillor Don to correct herself. Councillor Alison Dowling Houston, Crosslee and Linwood ward

I write regarding the article concerning dogs’ dirt.

I would hope by now that Councillor Carolann Davidson would have realised that before she decided to attack the SNP administration for attempting to address the scourge of dog fouling within our communities, she would have first of all done her homework.

She should have checked what had been done when the previous Labour administration had the power to address the dog fouling issues.

At that time, it was quite simply being ignored by the then administration, even although at every public meeting it was being brought up as an issue which was getting out of control.

As convenor of the board, which has the control of dog fouling as part of its remit, I will not hesitate in trying any new initiative which is being used successfully by other councils to control dog fouling.

Again, Councillor Davidson, if you had looked into this, you would have, in fact, realised that this included other Labour-run councils.

So, Councillor Davidson, be very aware of the facts, and I am sure you would agree that this SNP administration will do all in its power to address the very real problem of dogs’ dirt in our pavements, parks and roads.
