Club apologises for moving Falkirk clash

St Mirren have apologised to supporters affected by the last-minute cancellation of Tuesday’s match with Falkirk.

The Buddies confirmed earlier this week that the clash has been switched to Saturday, March 24, after the weekend became available following Dumbarton’s successful run to the Irn-Bru Cup final.

However, a number of supporters had already purchased tickets for the original date or bought hospitality packages for the clash with Paul Hartley’s Bairns.

The club have confirmed that tickets will still be valid for the rescheduled game – which they insist has been moved to help the playing side – or refunds will be given for those unable to attend the new date.

A club spokesman said: “The club would like to address the decision to rearrange our match with Falkirk from its scheduled Tuesday, February 27, date to Saturday, March 24.

“The team were due to face Dumbarton in a Ladbrokes Championship fixture on Saturday, March 24.

“However, Dumbarton’s win over The New Saints last Saturday saw them reach the final of the Irn-Bru Cup, meaning that match would have to be rearranged.

“Falkirk were due to face Inverness Caledonian Thistle on the same day, but, as Inverness also made the final, it too would have to be rearranged.

“This would have left ourselves and Falkirk with a free weekend.

“The club discussed the potential for moving the match and came to an agreement with Falkirk to move the match from Tuesday, February 27, to Saturday, March 24. This was approved by the SPFL.

“We understand the frustration and disappointment this fixture change has caused some supporters. However, we can assure supporters that this decision wasn’t taken lightly.”

If the original clash went ahead, it would have left St Mirren playing three games in the space of seven days, with the Buddies also facing Brechin City this Saturday and Dundee United at Tannadice next Friday night.

With the side facing a tough run-in as they look to clinch the Championship title, the club had looked to alleviate the strain on the players.

A spokesman added: “The team are due to play Brechin City this Saturday and Dundee United a week on Friday.

“The decision taken means the players won’t face three matches in six days.

“We would like to apologise to any supporters who have been inconvenienced by the fixture change, but hope they can understand the reason behind the decision.

“Tickets purchased for the Falkirk match will be valid for the rearranged date.”
