Drug dealer faces prison over £12k cannabis stash

Police raid on flat unearthed huge haul of weed

- Chris Taylor

A drug dealer was caught with more than £ 12,000 of weed bagged up for sale at his flat.

Scott Cairns, 26, was busted with two large bags of the class B substance before his home was searched.

The raid turned up more than two kilos of cannabis with a five-figure street value.

He pled guilty to possession with intent to supply at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Pamela Brady told how the turn uncovered a huge haul of grass.

She said: “There were numerous quantities of cannabis found in the flat.

“The total weight of all the various amounts was 2.196kg.

“They were all in recognisable dealer’s quantities.

“Expert opinion gave an onward sale value of £12,080.

“An interview took place in the earlier hours.

“The accused provided mostly ‘no comment’ answers, but confirmed he had stayed in the flat for a couple of weeks and that everything in it belonged to him.”

Cops launched the search after Cairns was nabbed with two large bags of drugs — worth £700 each.

Chiefs insisted this was likely to be split into smaller amounts for sale on the streets.

They swooped on his home and found wraps of the drug scattered throughout the property in Johnstone’s MacDowall Street on May 24 last year.

Defence lawyer James Arrol insisted his client should be bailed before sentencing.

He said: “While I accept there is a significant value of drugs here, apart from a road traffic matter, he has no analogous offences.

“He gave instructions a number of weeks ago to plead guilty.”

Mason could face a lengthy prison stint for the haul.

Sheriff Tom McCartney released the dealer, but warned he could be sent down when he returns.

He said: “Not withstanding the gravity of the offence, having considered what’s been said, I will continue bail.

“You have to be aware that while continuing bail at this stage, in due course there may be no alternative other than prison for this matter.”

Cairns has been ordered to return to court on March 22.
