Break will do us a world of good, says gaffer Ross

Manager says Falkirk clash move allows his players to rest

- Craig Ritchie Jack Ross says the rescheduled tie will give the Buddies a break

St Mirren boss Jack Ross admits he is delighted that tomorrow’s game with Falkirk has been rescheduled.

Saints had been due to face the Bairns on Tuesday night, however, with the crunch-tie against Dundee United set for Friday, Ross reckons that his side will reap the rewards of having an extra break.

The gaffer highlighted that St Mirren would have had to play three games in the space of six days, and, with United having played Friday past, they would have had an extra day’s rest in the lead up to the fixture.

St Mirren will now face Falkirk on March 24.

Ross said: “It is unusual to have to play three games in six days, I know we sometimes play three days in a week, but it’s very seldom it is three in six.

“Sometimes it gets overlooked that we were only in that position because the last of those games had been moved for television, which was outwith our control.

“But, with the way it has panned out with Falkirk’s opponents Inverness, and our opponents Dumbarton – both reaching the Irn-Bru Cup final – it gave us the opportunity to move the game to the free weekend.

“Regardless, we were going to have a game that weekend either way.

“It gives us a proper week to prepare for United now, because we were going to have a big turnaround.

“It can only be a good thing for us and it gives us a few days to prepare for the game.”

And centre back Harry Davis echoed the thoughts of his manager, insisting he was happy the Bairns clash has been rescheduled.

He added: “It is a good thing that it’s been moved. Three games in a week was not ideal, with the Brechin game and the Dundee United game next Friday.

“Now that it is off, it is obviously a better schedule for us.

“But first and foremost we were just focused on the Brechin game before we looked at Dundee United.”
