It really was beastly

-

The Beast from the East certainly made its presence felt across Renfrewshire, that’s for sure.

I think the thing that struck me most profoundly was the willingness of Buddies to dig in – in some case quite literally – to help out where they could.

We heard of kind souls ferrying doctors to work in their 4x4 jeeps, dog walkers offering to get messages for their neighbours and teenagers out clearing paths on their days off from school.

Times like these remind us that there is some good in the world after all.

I would also like to thanks all the emergency services who will have surely been pushed to their limits with the weather, and also the council staff who have done an exemplary job in helping to keep the area moving.

All the social care staff, nurses and other who have been out looking after the most vulnerable deserve all of our gratitude and respect.

We will all remember the Beast from the East, but for me what will stick in the memory is not the snow drifts or stranded cars – it is the spirit that so many showed to make sure everyone was safe.

The dedication they have shown is absolutely commendable.

And at least the snow covered the potholes for a little while.
